Sometimes discovering the truth can leave you more hopeless than believing the lies…That’s what seventeen-year-old Sky realizes after she meets Dean Holder. A guy with a reputation that rivals her own and an uncanny ability to invoke feelings in her she’s never had before. He terrifies her and captivates her all in the span of just one encounter, and something about the way he makes her feel sparks buried memories from a past that she wishes could just stay buried.
Sky struggles to keep him at a distance knowing he’s nothing but trouble, but Holder insists on learning everything about her. After finally caving to his unwavering pursuit, Sky soon finds that Holder isn’t at all who he’s been claiming to be. When the secrets he’s been keeping are finally revealed, every single facet of Sky’s life will change forever.
My Review
Coleen Hoover is a GENIUS. GENIUS I tell you. I just hate the feeling of leaving my past book boyfriends behind (which some of them are the ones she also made in her mind) after reading her next book. I mean come on! Who writes novel after novel that just keeps getting better?HER.
I didn't perceive the big reveal coming. I had my reservations about one part of the story, but the other part took me a very long time to get over the surprise. I was flabbergasted to see that the way she deliberated the book actually augmented the emotional brunt of the story.
THIS.BOOK.MADE.ME.CRY!
No freaking book had made me cry for crying out loud! Well, not until Hopeless. I felt the connection of the characters. In fact, I felt all in sync with them. I cried, I was hurt, I got my heart torn apart, I laughed and then cried again, and at one time my heart sank with Dean. It was amazeball.
The first few pages made me think that the heroine, LINDEN SKY, was a slut. With all the made outs and all but…she wasn't. She was trying to get away from a bad experience when she was younger. The reason behind her rebellion was a little vague at first but as the story unfolds, you’ll understand it like I do.
And the best part was when Sky first saw Dean Holder.
“I've never been swept off my feet. I don’t get butterflies. In fact the whole idea of being swooned by anyone is foreign to me… Somehow, in the course of sixty seconds, this guy has managed to swoon me, then terrify the hell out of me.”
...and that was the best description of being struck by cupid and being petrified all in one roll.
“Sometimes you have to choose between a bunch of wrong choices and no right ones. You just have to choose which wrong choice feels the least wrong.”
All the bits of the story just build and build, cover upon cover of things you didn't even figure are vital until the secrets surface and the gush of emotions from them just smash into you and take your breath away.
“Life is real and sometimes it’s ugly and you just have to learn how to cope.”
This book is about love, survival and moving on. About muddling through with devastation, forgiveness and finding peace. About being tough.
It is not only about being a victim but being a survivor as well.
And…
Despite of all the hardships and the past…
Finding true love.
“Fuck all the firsts, Sky. The only thing that matters to me with you are the forevers.”
COME THE HELL ON! The giddy feelings are all coming back to me now.
